On the first day of July 1921, the Dhaka University opened its doors to students with Sir P.J. Hartog as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. The University of Dhaka was set up in a picturesque part of the city known as Ramna on 600 acres of land. The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University or simply DU), is the oldest university in modern Bangladesh. The university is ranked number one on the Bangladesh University ranking 2017.
After the Partition of India, it became the focal point of progressive and democratic movements in Pakistan. Its students and teachers played a central role in the rise of Bengali nationalism and the independence of Bangladesh. Dhaka University is one of the most beautiful and attractive in Bangladesh’s all universities. There are Tsc, Curzon Hall, Shahid Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan besides area of the Dhaka University.
