Ratargul Swamp Forest is the only a freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh. Ratargul Swamp Forest is one of most beautiful an evergreen forests in Bangladesh. It is at the center of attraction among others tour place because it is the only swamp forest in all over Bangladesh. The forest’s name comes from the word, “Rata” or “Pati” tree, used by the locals of Sylhet. It’s located in Gowain River, Fatehpur Union, and Gowainghat Upazila in Sylhet District. Its area is 3, 325.61 acres including 504 acres declared as the animal sanctuary in 1973. Ratargul forest is about 26 kilometers from Sylhet city. After reaching Gowainghat, tourists reserve local engine boat namely “taller” to reach the forest. There are two haors namely Shimul Bil haor and Neoa Bil Haor in the south part of the forest. The forest is naturally conserved under the Department of Forestry, Govt. of Bangladesh.
Ratargul Swamp forest diversity of its nature attracts tourists all over the year, but the best time to travel Ratargul is during and after the rainy season. It’s become attractive especially in the rainy season. Because the forest is submerged under 20–30 feet water in the rainy season. For the rest of the year, the water level is about 10 feet deep.

You may take the bus or CNG auto rickshaw from Ambarkhana point of Sylhet city head towards Saklutikor road. Then Take a rickshaw to reach there.
